OVERVIEW
Background
Babban Gona is an innovative and comprehensive agriculture franchise model that seeks to sustainably improve the lives of smallholder farmers through the provision of end-to-end farming services. It operates in rural northern Nigeria, where it provides farmers with all they need to thrive, be it inputs, know-how, harvesting services or storage.
Goals & Objectives
Our goal for this project was to create an app that is simple and easy to use by those with little or no education. Our ambition was to create an app that embraces easy usability by local farmers.

Our high-level goals:
-
Digitalize the disbursement process of poultry birds via loan and cash &carry
-
Make the app fast and easy to use for everyone everywhere.
-
Give farmers more control over time and money
-
Create a platform for innovation
-
Reduce Carbon footprint by connecting farmers with everything they need to be successful.
MY ROLE
I worked collaboratively with Product Managers across Lagos, Abuja, and Kaduna. I led the design team with daily remote touch-points and contributed as a UX Designer.

Since there is a handful of applications we could rely on for competitive analysis, our process saw a lot of back and forth between ideas generated by Product managers and the Designers. We were faced with overlapping and disjointed ideas, with holes filled with technical uncertainties. But we were able to support each other through the stand-ups and the meetings with the business to find a sweet spot between the users and the business goals.
We needed to know the user whom we were creating this solution for, we created the User persona to have more knowledge.
UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM

Through a comprehensive understanding of each profile's needs and goals we were able to identify pertinent features which impacted how the information architecture should be structured. Thus, it was necessary to create a visual representation to facilitate lay users' understanding of the correlation between the application and users based on the main insights.
Information Architecture

Incorporating the principles of Gestalt, this Babban Gona style guide presents a streamlined and user-centric aesthetic. Using a minimalist approach and card-based navigation enhances focus on key information while facilitating an intuitive understanding of content relationships. The design further includes modified and cartoonish icons from the Streamline library, ensuring a visually cohesive and intuitive user experience.
Style Guide

User Interface
To enhance usability and reduce cognitive load, I implemented a carefully designed interface that effectively prioritizes information through the use of distinct color components, in accordance with our style guide. This approach significantly decreased decision-making time for users, while effectively highlighting the most important content. Additionally, I incorporated one of the Principles of Calm Technology into the layout design, ensuring that the interface demands only a minimal amount of attention from the user, thereby preventing information overload. To achieve this, I streamlined each screen by minimizing the number of elements and focusing solely on the essential components.

Improvement Opportunities
Babban Gona Poultry App is a sample design project focused on the user-interface design for the WEDI Poltry farmers in the Northern part of Nigeria. It's iterative work, as the topic is still incipient, and is being constantly updated.
As a refinement of the project, I came up with some improvement opportunities:
-
Integration of data from reliable sources to contrast misinformation
-
Set the extended menu as the default for the dashboard.
-
Evaluate the requirements of vaccinated to understand how to grant access to vaccine proof system.
It's also important to focus more on user research methods. In-depth interviews can bring more relevance to the project by avoiding cognitive biases and allowing testing of the future implementations.
